Neamh Evaluation question 3- What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Introduction
Our music video has been created for the song 'Satisfied' by Balcony. Our target audience was females aged 16-25 who would enjoy listening to indie-pop music. They would also be able to relate to the lyrics in the song. Having a target audience is very important as it allows the producer to market specifically to one audience and cater for their needs. For example, if they were targeting young females who listen to pop music, themes that will be seen in the video are most likely to include creative costumes and makeup, bright colours and an overall fun feel, wheres if they were targeting a middle aged, male audience, who enjoy rock and roll, it may be more suitable to have a performance music video with older actors present.

Research
After showing an audience our first draft of our music video, we were able to get feedback as to what went well and any areas for improvement through asking the audience a series of questions based on what they thought about our M-E-S, Cinematography locations, codes and conventions. The audience had an array of suggestions such as using more creative locations, props and shot types which we implemented into our updated version. This was seen through the variety of locations we filmed in. We also implemented several shot types such as focus pulls, long shots, extreme close ups, panning and different angles. We also filmed two disscussions as a group, talking about the magazine advert and the design for the DVD Digipack. This allowed us to effectively discuss as a group what concepts and ideas worked and what didn't.

Planning
Class sketches allowed us to develop on our ideas by drawing them into something that would look like the final product. In this example, this aided us to get the final look that we wanted to achieve rather than the bottom picture which was an initial decision.

We created something called a 'Wordle' which enables you to put together a scramble of words in order to represent them in a certain way. The words that we used to create this were the lyrics from the song we have chosen. This helped us to look at the lyrics from a different perspective and pick out which words really stood out.

Interviewing audience members allowed us to get a first hand look as to what our target audience had to say and if we could gather any helpful advice from their feedback. We filmed this video before starting on any of our projects and this gave us an insight into what our audience would expect to see from this genre, locations that we should use and what concepts should be portrayed.

We conducted a survey on our target audience, the results below show the number of audience members that said what the lead actors gender should be. This shows that the vast majority said that the main actor should be female, we listened to this and decided to implement this into our video.

Similarly, in another question we asked the audience what kind of costumes they would expect her to be wearing. Majority of respondents said that she would be wearing plain clothing, this is also something that we incorporated as it fits into the genre and is what the audience would expect to see.

This question asked audiences what sorts of locations the video should be filmed in, they responded with, fields and empty areas the most, followed by Inside houses and buildings and busy cities/towns. Therefore, we incorporated these three top choices into our music video.

Interim Evaluations
Our magazine advert was posted on Instagram and the feedback that it received was in the form of comments on the picture. The feedback that we generally received was that there was too much white space on the advert and this can be really unprofessional and look quite dull. As this was only a design we are hoping that the colour of the background will take away from this and as one of the audience member said, we would also benefit from moving the release date so that there is less empty space.

The music video feedback we received was on a mixture of platforms, in this example it was on iMessage. This meant that I could send the receiver a link to the video and they could watch the full version straight away. I asked them how they thought the artist was represented and it was very reassuring to hear the outcome as this is how we felt we represented the artist.

Our DVD Digipack feedback was given on WhatsApp. On here i asked audiences what they thought the overall concept was.

The peer evaluations were so detailed that they broke down all aspects of the video, letting us know what went well and what areas we needed to improve on.

On the back of the feedback sheets, audiences wrote some areas for improvement, on this one the respondent said to have the artist make more of a reaction to what she is singing as she is remaining quite still and to really highlight this by showing more footage of her singing.

Summary
I feel as if our audience has been vital to the success of our media products. They are able to pick up on details that we may have missed and give us ideas that we wouldn't have thought of. Overall it was an extremely useful aid to have.

Final Feedback
We created a Facebook page specifically for our music video, this meant that we were able to upload photos and videos easily, separating them into folders and we could then invite all of our friends and family to like the page. This in turn means that they are likely to view the page when they visit it and by liking it they will receive updates whenever we posted. We posted a series of questions and users were able to leave feedback in the comment section.
